Finding Your NICHE

Steve Jobs delivered the following quote of his commencement address to the graduating body at Stanford University in 2005.

“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did.

You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.

If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.

As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

To be honest, I always had another dream. It’s always in the back of my mind… a little simmering pot of fantasy stew.

It’s too big and grand a dream for the likes of me. I simply didn’t have the ability or will to follow it through.

But, it’s still there, like a little piece of diamond in the rough lodged in the recesses of my heart.

I don’t know if I’ll ever pursue this dream. There are too many other… obligations.

But, perhaps the greatest obligation of all, is to be true to ourselves.

Perhaps we should go for our dreams. And those who love us, will follow.

WORTH & VALUE

Monday is short for Money-Day. It’s the day I thought I’m supposed to begrudgingly clamber back on the ole’ Pursuit of Money Trail after a rip roaring weekend of sewing up the previous week’s lose ends.

Or is it?

According to the video below, it’s more important to go after worth rather than wealth. Be WORTHY, and the wealth will follow.

Quotes:

“Money doesn’t come as a result of thinking about the money… it comes as a result of truly doing something which is of value.”

“The Secret is this… As long as you focus on trying to be wealthy, you won’t be wealthy.”

“No one is going to help you get wealthy. But if you go out and focus on becoming worthy, something interesting happens… more people will want to conspire with you… and the million dollars will come.”

“Wealth is NOT a cause… it is an effect. [Effect of being of worth]”

“Turn [your business] from a vehicle for wealth, to a vehicle for worth.”

VALUE

All last week, I kept running into the term, “value.”

“Provide true Value to your Customers and Clients.”

“”Value” is the core component of any product worthy buying.”

Now… what are the exact steps to being of worth AND providing VALUE?

Ideas?

I await your response…

As for me, in order to evaluate “value,” I will ask myself this question for every product or service I provide: “What’s in this for him or her…” rather than, “What’s in this for me?” And I will make sure there’s PLENTY of value for Him or Her.

Nina Simone Sings “Feelin’ Good”

Feeling a tad down?

Man I’m so lucky this is on Dailymotion. Nina Simone singing “It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new li-ife… and I’m fee-eelin’ goood….”

Feeling Good, Nina Simone
by mrfnk

First heard of Nina Simone from the movie, “Point of No Return” with Bridget Fonda.

EVERY song in that movie burns into the brain (all immemorably good)… along with a number of the scenes (also all immemorably good) - especially those with Anne Bancroft and Harvey Keitel. They, along with Bridget Fonda are… impeccable.

Take in particular, the scene with Anne Bancroft - “I never did much mind the little things.”

The power and finely tuned penache oozing from Ms. Bancroft’s every pore is devastatingly mesmerizing. From the first moment I saw that scene, I vowed to DEFINITELY stop minding the little things.

(Aside: still in the process of completing that vow…)

Point(s): Great frrickin’ song, great singer that hits to the core, great actresses and actors that hit to the core, and LESSON: don’t much mind the little things because there’s too many big things to squander time on.

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life… and I’m fee-eelin’ gooood.

Feeling Good Full Song Lyrics:

Birds flyin’ high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, its’ a new life for me
yeah, it’s a new dawn it’s a new day it’s a new life for me ooooooooh
AND I’M FEELING GOOD

Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin’ free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, its a new day, it’s a new life for me
And I’m feelin good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what i mean don’t you know
Butterflies all havin’ fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done that’s what I mean
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me

Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh oh, Freedom is mine, and I know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, its a new life for me
oh nomeenombohhhh
OH I’M FEELING GOOOOOOOOOOD.
