Updated: The Latest News, Videos and Links About Christian the Lion
Note: Some have claimed that the story of Christian is fake. Most assuredly it is not fake. Christian was very real. Below is a collection of videos and information to prove otherwise. John Rendall, one of Christian's previous "owners" in Great Britain is now a trustee of George Adamson's Wildlife Foundation in Africa. John is dedicated to the preservation of the African Lion, a majestic animal of tremendous intelligence with the ability to form life long, loving relationships with humans, as well as all magnificent African wildlife. Tony Fitzjohn now heads the Trust.

Christian Grows Up to Be a Big, Noble Lion - Video

(No sound) Video of Christian the Lion and his two friends reunite for the second and final meeting in Africa.

Christian had grown immensely, becoming one of the largest lions in Africa, as George Adamson put it. This video is the last film of his meeting with Anthony and John.

The very first part of the second meeting was not filmed because Christian surprised them by showing up during dinnertime. It was an unforgettable meeting.

Evidently, Christian was so overjoyed to see his old friends that he tried repeatedly to jump into their laps, leaping onto the table, even knocking George Adamson over with his great exuberance, excitement and love.

"The Four Things..."

There are 2 relatively new books out. Coincidentally, one substantiates the other to an almost mystical degree, yet both books and authors are totally unrelated.

The subject matter by which they are intertwined couldn't be more timely and important to so many seekers of happiness, success, health.

I had the good fortune to bump into the first book quite by chance, then found the second book by fortuitous love for Bookstore Pastries at Borders and the proximity of the Best Seller Table to said pastries.

An aside regarding specific Bookstore pastry - to whit: Their round raspberry scone heated to soft warm perfection chased by Seattle's Best creamy hot fresh coffee laced with sweet... nice. Very nice.

All right... to continue...

About the first book...

The Mind of the Market by Michael Shermer

Mr. Shermer expounds brilliantly and provocatively upon the most interesting of facts regarding the subliminal and conscious mind and how it is affected by marketing.

Once one understands these mechanisms and harnesses the basic underpinnings of human nature, marketing can become more effective.

On the other hand, armed with the knowledge of marketing techniques, the consumer can be smarter, more astute and more aware of carefully crafted sales manipulation.

Amongst other excruciatingly exacting and fascinating information about the science of marketing, this book proposes the 4 following factors that most characterize the happy and successful:

1. Love of Family
2. Love of Friends and Community
3. Enjoying Your Work
4. Some form of Spirituality focussed on Love

Where on the List is making money? Buying Toys and Gadgets? Having lots of lovely sex? Traveling the world? Seeking fun and adventure? Adorning oneself with gems and jewels?

None of these things were even close to these top four factors.

How strange.

The second book is called Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.

In the very beginning, he tells the tale of the Rosetans who immigrated to the Pennsylvania area from Roseta, Italy.

Researchers discovered that the American Rosetans were almost completely free of heart disease at age 65, 50% less than the entire United States. How could this be? Was it the diet? life style? the water, land, genetics?

What factors contributed to this astounding statistic?

In what other ways were the American Rosetans blessed?

Additionally, it turns out that there was no suicide, no alcoholism, no drug addiction, very little crime. No ulcers, no one on welfare.

As one researcher noted wistfully about walking about the town, "It was magical."

The story begins in the 1800s when a young priest settled in the new Roseto, forming spiritual societies and organizing festivals.

He encourages the clearing of land in the long back yards to plants onions, beans, potatoes, melons and fruit trees giving out seeds and bulbs.

The townsfolk began raising their own pigs and growing grapes to make homemade wines right in their back yards as well.

Undoubted they raised herbs, spice plants, salad greens and other vegetables as well although the book did not specify.

Small shops, bakeries, restaurants and little neighborhood bars sprang up. One would always see shopkeepers and customers walking, talking, socializing in front of the businesses.

Was the food special? Did it match the food from the Old Country?

Not at all. In the old country, they used olive oil, Here in New Roseto, they used lard. In fact, Rosetans ate a diet of 41% fat.

Rather than the thin crusted pizzas in Italy with tomatoes, anchovies and perhaps a bit of onion, the American Rosetans ate pizzas replete with sausage, ham, pepperoni, salami.

Rather than eating sweets only on special occasions, they now ate sweets all year round.

So what was the difference?

Was it hardy genes? Special fertile land? Research disovered these played no part.

This is what they DID discover about the new Rosetans:

They lived with extended family, respecting their grandpar3ents. They all shared in a unifying calming spiritual church environment.

And very interestingly... along with 22 civic organizations, Mr. Gladwell notes that the Rosetans lived within an "egalitarian ethos."

This "ethos" discouraged the wealthier from flaunting their success, while helping the unsuccessful avoid the shame of revealing their failures. They lived in a more "obscure" climate of success and failure.

It was surmised the the following 4 factors contributed to the health and happiness of the new Rosetans:

1. Close knit loving families
2. Friends
3. Culture of Community
4. Spirituality

It seems that the following 4 factors of Book 1 and Book 2 have a 75% concurrence rate.

Coincidence? As of now, I tend to think both authors are very much onto something.

Long ago, we started a series of community websites. We rather knew then that community was more valuable than the suburbs would lead you to believe.

We were not alone. Perhaps everyone can reach into themselves and know that in working together, we work well.

There are those who believe in the Lone Wolf, the singular man, the isolationist philosophy, the "every man for himself" attitude.

Some think of running off to a wild spot to survive on their own.

But, it most likely seems that those who will do best in the future are those who can work together as a community.

What do you think?

Someone important had written a forum post about the book, Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution -- and How It Can Renew America.

His quote: I've never been an environmentalist (or any kind of "ist", only someone who believes in freedom). Always kind of figured the environment would sort itself out. Well, although there are a lot of less-than-ironclad points in Friedman's prose (especially mistaking anecdotes for statistical proof), the big picture, the big points, are undeniable..."

Hot, Flat, and Crowded
Thomas Friedman

http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Flat-Crowded-Revolution-America/dp/0374166854/

Here's a response to that person:

Hello!

Well i guess i am an "ist." You are forewarned. Let's start with age.

Are you over 35? Then maybe you think it makes less difference
whether the planet survives our abuse. Or acknowledging even if there
IS any abuse in the first place. But do you have kids? Grandkids?

Are you under 35? Maybe there's more at stake for you. Like, in your
lifetime things could get super hairy.

For both groups, freedom may be indeed, the huge issue here.

For instance, consider these things possibly afoot:

Your freedom may have to do whether all your food will be genetically
modified and sold in processed form ONLY.

You will be told what you can and cannot eat at all times. Or, it simply
is no longer available. Just TV dinner type foods courtesy of... Monsanto.

It may have to do with fake seafood as the oceans no longer provide
real seafood except to the VERY VERY rich.

It may have to do with changing weather patterns (not warming,
not colding, Changing and More Extreme)

It may have to do with Constant Surveillance because NO ONE will
be trusted anymore due to biochemical terrorism, nano-terrorism,
chemical terrorism, biological agents terrorism (Genetically modified
race specific, gender specific, physical traits specific Bio, NANO,
nuclear, electromagnetic agents. etc. etc.)

It may have to do with limited education so that people are NO LONGER
ALLOWED to learn any sciences that could be used for harm UNLESS
they have ultra-connections or meet STRINGENT security requirements.

It may have to do with limited Internet access for ANYONE who
promotes freedom loving materials that encourage FREE and
DIFFERENT thinking.

It may have to do with NO FREE THINKING allowed that can be
characterized as subterfuge in ANY CAPACITY whatsoever.

It may have to do with limited travel and access to information
(already books and information are being purchased and/or eliminated
from libraries and other sources).

It may be that growing your own food will be outlawed because you
may be introducing contamination, or using corporation patented
materials.

It may be that your homes will ALL BE OWNED by the very rich or
by governments because YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY afford the taxes
and fees any longer.

It may be that a few companies will have the right to take your
property (Eminent business dominion) just because they want to and
their cronies in government say "sure. Do whatever, my buddy."

It may be that only government workers will be able to afford health
insurance with their retirement subsidized and guaranteed by the tax
payer - you.

it may be that you will NOT be able to conduct business without being
accused of inssurrection just because some one else wants it, or thinks
you may be a "terror" inciting agent, or whatever.

It may be that your air will be unclean, water filled with pharmaceuticals,
chemicals, pollutants.

And, maybe your children will be forced to take drugs and vaccines that
HAVEN'T been properly tested just because some agency says there's
danger of... whatever.

And, how about the fact that new diseases and military weapons are
being created EVERY MINUTE that can devastate and re-devastate the
earth as we know it, over and OVER?

Is that madness?

Well sure, but all in the name of defense because there's a REAL
DANGER of bad people committing terroristic acts.

Nuclear Power? safe? You think? Coal Power? Clean? Safe? You think?

Companies will allow green energy and lose oil profits? You think?

Do you think that if people can be killed for $20 they won't be
eliminated for "billions" of dollars?

Do you currently trust your politicians?

Do you think the rich corporations (they are considered individuals with
individual rights) have souls and are "considering" your welfare?

Do you think you can sit still, accept what is, and have a perfect,
happy joyful safe life living in bliss till you're 110?

Do you think the economy will right itself?

Okay. Sure it will. You're find, all is well. Actually...

THE GOOD NEWS:

Believe it or not, if we all work together for the common good,
THINGS CAN CHANGE. FOR THE BETTER. AND FASTER THAN WE
THINK POSSIBLE.

Americans, Europeans, Asians, Africans, EVERYONE, every ordinary
person is a tidal wave of force. Together we are a SLEEPING GIANT.

We DO have power to convince corporations to change their ways,

WE DO have power to ask our politicians to CHANGE THEIR WAYS
and choose honor, decency, honesty, and GOODness in ALL THAT
they do.

WE DO HAVE POWER to be good to each other, fair with each other,
KNOWLEDGEABLE WITH EACH OTHER, and

NOT PUT OUR HEADS IN THE SAND and pretend everything is just
HUNKY DORY.

SO....

is this a rant? no... it's just reminding you that things don't change
unless someone does something about it.

And as much as we want to believe the government will handle
everything, that the SMART PEOPLE of the world will solve all the
crisises,

THINK AGAIN. Are they doing a good job so FAR????

MAYBE YOU HAVE BETTER SENSE THAN THEM... you think?

Chances are they've been corrupted by old power, old money, old
habits, old clever entities that don't want to lose control and power.

Well, maybe these powers will win... I don't know anymore.

This one can know for sure -

we have a PARADISE OF A PLANET.

we have the most BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS and dear creatures to delight us.

We were given stewardship.

We have the capacities to be AMAZING AND WONDERFUL and LIVE
wonderful lives of true value and goodness.

Will be lose everything because we can't put forth the effort to REALLY
EFFECT CHANGE??

Your call.

Me? I'm kind of lazy, i'd rather play computer games, watch the telly,
eat junk food, ignore what displeases me...

so, good luck!
Shocked Confused Cool Rolling Eyes Exclamation Exclamation

PS: Ordinary people. Ordinary good people. THEY ARE SLEEPING
GIANTS. WE ARE SLEEPING GIANTS. Time to wake up...

writing is on the WALL in NEON.
